One of the lessons to be practiced in speech training is that of speaking within a certain interval. All Table Topics, Speeches and Evaluations are timed.

At the discretion of the Toastmaster, the Toastmaster may ask the Timer to explain the how the lights indicate information to the Speakers and Table Topics participants:

  • Green light comes on when the minimum time objective has been reached.
  • Yellow light comes on when the maximum time objective has been reached (time to wrap up).
  • Red light comes on 30 seconds after the Yellow, at which point the Speaker would be disqualified in a speaking competition.

The Timer is responsible for properly setting the timing clock for each Speaker/participant. When called upon by the General Evaluator, the Timer will give his/her report, listing the times that each Speaker/participant used.
